Adeline Cook (née Fischer) left us in her 93rd year due to Covid 19. Addie, as she was known and called by all, was born in Brooklyn, grew up in Mattituck and Cutchogue Long Island in the 1930's and 40's when it was still potato farm lands that no one visited. Addie attended SUNY Albany which was then known as Albany Teachers College. She worked multiple jobs which included a golf caddy, waitress & soy bean picker to pay for her own tuition, room, and board. She taught English at Jerusalem Avenue when it was a Junior High School. It was there that she met fellow English teacher Roland Cook. They were married for 44 years before his untimely death in 2002. Addie left teaching to raise her four children, then went back to work part time when her children were older. She made a career at State Farm Insurance working for John Rossi until she retired at 80 years old. She remained friends with all her co-workers to this day. She is dearly remembered by her students from 1952 as evidenced in a Newsday article published a few years ago. She was asked to take part in the StoryCorp History of Bellmore which she considered a trememdous honor. Addie joins her husband Ro, her six siblings who pre-deceased her, her parents and many other family members and friends. She leaves behind several godchildren, nieces and nephews and her four children and their spouses, Kevin & Vicky Cook, Tracy & Arthur Marino, Kelly & Jim Perkowski, and Robin & Dave Jacobsen, as well as her best friend of 70 years Patricia Christy. She will be missed forever by her beloved grandchildren, Heather & Russell Gilchrist, Michael & Jessica Holzmann, Steven & Kristie Perkowski, Zachary Cook, Chris Perkowski & Maria Palmeri, Elenita Cook, Tyler Jacobsen, and Kiersten Jacobsen. Services will be private She will be interred at Pinelawn. Please social distance to keep your elderly and at risk relatives safe.
