Doris Hickman Russell Obituary

Doris Hickman Russell, 89 of Bridgeton passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2020 peacefully at home. Born on May 19, 1930 in Port Norris to the late Addington and Harriet Hickman, she was the wife of Glenn A Russell. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this June. She was a resident of Bridgeton most of her life. Doris graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1948. She worked during high school and for several years as a secretary at Protection Service Insurance Co before leaving to become a full time mother. She was a dedicated homemaker and loved having the family over for dinners and family celebrations. She enjoyed reading, word searches, and crossword puzzles. A woman of strong faith, she was a former member of West Park United Methodist Church and had currently been attending Harvest Bible Fellowship. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Glenn, her son David Russell (Fay) of North Carolina, her daughter, Debra Lawrence (David) of Stow Creek, grandchildren Rebecca Minton (Jason) Beth Buono (Anthony) Steven Russell (Amber) Matthew Lawrence- Evans (James) and Benjamin R Patterson (Dustin) and great-grandchildren Karey, Karter, Addison, Alexis, Anthony III and Olivia along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, George Hickman and his wife Joan, and her granddaughter, Karen Russell. If you knew Doris, chances are you may have received a hand written card or note from her for whatever reason…a holiday, an illness, a birthday or just because she missed you or thought about you. As a loving act in her memory, please be encouraged to take a moment to write and mail a note to loved ones near and far, just to say hello…to brighten someone’s day just like Doris did. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Doris’ memory to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia or Ranch Hope, two organizations that were close to her heart. Graveside services will be held privately at the convenience of the family followed by interment at Dividing Creek Baptist Cemetery.
