Caitlin Elizabeth Whisnant
Caitlin Elizabeth Whisnant, age 18, of Joliet, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 18, 2020. She was born April 5, 2002 in Knoxville, TN. Beloved daughter of Jody and Kristin (nee Abs) Whisnant of Joliet, IL and the late Angela Randall Whisnant; loving sister of Julia Smith and adored auntie “Cay Cay” of Nolan Smith of Aurora, IL, loving sister of Nathan, Joshua and Natalie Zychal, all of Joliet, IL; dear granddaughter of Henry and Janet Abs of Joliet, Joseph D. Whisnant, Sr. and Sue Robinson and the late Wanda B. Whisnant, all of Morganton, NC, and Nicholas E. and the late Joyce P. Randall of Falcon, NC. She was a fond niece, cousin and friend to many. Caitlin will also be missed by her dog, Nina. Caitlin grew up in Corryton, TN and her family moved to Illinois in 2010. She attended Grand Prairie Elementary School, Timber Ridge Middle School, and was currently in her senior year at Plainfield Central High School. Caitlin loved math and science and was formerly a student at The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in Aurora, IL. Caitlin was sweet, kind, and sensitive. She was a good listener, and always wanted to make others happy and put people at ease. She was very funny, a master of corny jokes. Caitlin loved 80s and electronic music, the trampoline, drawing, and video games. She was also a talented baker. On the Internet she enjoyed YouTube, Reddit, Pinterest, and memes of all kinds. A family visitation and service will be held Saturday, April 25, 2020. Due to the current health crisis, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in honor of Caitlin has been established with the IMSA Fund for Advancement of Education, the charitable arm of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy, a 10th-12 grade residential high school for gifted and talented students in Illinois.
