Eileen Edith Gladys Digness Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan Obituary

Eileen Edith Gladys Digness

On April 16, 2020, Gladys Digness (née Whitford), loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 70. Gladys was born on November 15, 1949 in Perigord, Saskatchewan to Josephine Whitford. The birth was attended by her grandmother, Marie Genaille, who was a midwife. In her youth, Gladys enjoyed playing baseball, choir, and was a cheerleader. On October 1, 1966, she married Wilfred Digness. They raised five children in Porcupine Plain, Saskatchewan: Brent Digness (Trinidad), Deon Black (Wesley), Clint Digness, Mandy Kolybaba (Glen) and Raquel Digness-Froese (Aaron). She is survived by her husband Wilfred; her sister Lily; her children; her beloved grandchildren: Tony (Nancy), Brent (Darci), Samantha, Cassidy, Brody, Kristy (Cameron), Dana (Tyler), Sean, Robynn, Bria, Emery, Ariel, Cole, Samson, Riley, Ryder, Brady, Zoe and Samuel; her great grandchildren Alexandra, Nathaniel, Sophia, Booker, Scarlett, Ruby, Laveena, Kaylee, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Throughout her life, Gladys had a constant need to learn new things. She played piano and guitar by ear, sang in choirs, and trained in upholstering furniture and woodworking. She loved her Jersey cattle, (especially Wilma), gardening, and quilting. She baked countless buns, breads, pies, and enjoyed canning as well. If Gladys wanted to try something, she would pick up the new skill immediately and soon be teaching others. Along with Wilfred, she ran Digness Janitorial, and maintained several contracts over the years, including the former PPES, where Gladys started working at in 1974 until it closed. Gladys also had a love of horse-riding and sewed her own cowgirl outfits. Due to the current circumstances we are all facing, a private family service will be held. If so desired, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Porcupine Plain Comp. School Dignity Fund, to honour Gladys’s love for the kids at the schools where she spent so many years. Arrangements in the care of Blair’s Funeral Home Ltd. (306)-278-2202 – Porcupine Plain.
