Sylvester “June and Sly” Watkins, Jr. 75, of York SC, transitioned on Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Atrium Health, Pineville. Sylvester was born July 3, 1944 in Thorpe, WV to the parents of the late Sylvester Sr. and Lucy Shade Watkins. At an early age, he became a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in West Virginia. He was currently a faithful member and Trustee at Union Baptist Church, Rock Hill, SC. He worked at General Motors, retiring in June of 2008. After retirement, he became a member of the Rock Hill, SC Mended Hearts Chapter 289. He was an active member, and a Visitor, visiting other heart patients at Piedmont Medical Center. Sylvester enjoyed traveling and could brighten up a room with his smile. Not only a father of three, he played uncle and father-figure to many throughout his lifetime. Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Norman Watkins, Sr., and other beloved family members. He leaves to cherish his memory: wife, Brenda. Three children: Curtis (Meachelle), Sr., Sylvester III, and Sherise Watkins Miller. Siblings: Cecil, Gerald (Demetria), Kenneth (Linda), Stanley (Patricia), Howard (Anita) and Darlene Watkins Saunders. Nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends who will miss him dearly. Due to Federal & State COVID-19 restrictions, there will be no public service.
