Charles Gold Obituary

Charles Dennis Gold passed away March 28th, 2020, at the age of 73, from COVID 19. He was retired and lived in Anchorage, AK with his silver lab Zivah. Born in Oakland, California, Chuck completed his schooling in the Bay Area before serving in the Vietnam War. Upon return to the States, he met his future wife, Peggy Sue Adams and started a career in the aviation maintenance field. Chuck and Peggy Sue married in Oakland in 1969, and had their first child Jason in 1974. Shortly thereafter Chuck and his family were transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska with Alaska International Airways, where they had their second child, Joelle. In 1983, another job transfer, now as MarkAir, took them to Anchorage. He subsequently moved on to Alaska Airlines where he remained until retirement. Chuck found a second career in electrical contracting, a job that Chuck always said did not cause as much heart palpitating stress and hair loss as aviation. He loved football, specifically the Oakland Raiders, gardening and cooking, and unfortunately took with him the still undocumented recipe for his famous Caesar salad. He died never having to see the Raiders play in Las Vegas. Contrary to his surly exterior and authoritarian demeanor, which he exuded with pride, Chuck was the epitome of a “gentle giant”. He lived what he taught, and taught his kids; that you can always count your true friends on one hand, doing the right thing is not always the easiest and the importance of lending a hand or opening your door to someone in need. We’re comforted to know that he’s finally reunited with Peggy Sue, eating a Kasper Hot Dog while driving his '70 Chevy truck, Neil Diamond blasting in the background. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Gold and Norma Knapp, and his wife, Peggy Sue. He is survived by his son Jason (Iona), their two sons Andrew and Samuel, daughter Joelle (Josh), and their two sons Alexander and Joseph. A Celebration of Life will be planned for the summer.
