Margaret Marino Dillon Obituary

Margaret Marino Dillon, 104 years old and a lifelong resident of Orange, N.J., died peacefully in her sleep on April 11, 2020 at Complete Care at Summit Ridge in West Orange. A devout Catholic, she was a longtime member of Saint Venantius Church, and then at Mount Carmel Parish in Orange. An intelligent and passionate women, Mrs. Dillon was fluent in Italian and English and often translated for immigrant neighbors. As a teenage she wrote the “Just for Girls” column in the Newark Evening News under the penname, Margaret the Mariner. She was a tireless and talented cook with many self-created recipes. She also produced many items of fine knitted clothing, embroidery, appliques and crocheted beading. She was predeceased by her parents, Michael Marion and Brigida Scrocco Marino, her husband of 56 years, Lawrence J. Dillon; her 11 siblings and one grandchild.  She is survived by her children, Larry Dillon, Joan Dillon Carson, Mike Dillon (Debbie) ,and by seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A private service will be held under the direction of Paul Ippolito-Dancy Memorial, Caldwell, N.J.A Memorial Mass will be held at a future date.
