Kenneth Eric Crowell Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Kenneth Eric Crowell of Ellershouse, formerly of Cheverie, on Saturday, April 11, at the age of 78. Born and raised in Cheverie, where he spent his entire life and raised his family, Eric was a loving husband and father. Well loved in the community, he was a friend to so many and always the first to offer a kind word and helping hand to those in need. Throughout his career, he was a skilled heavy equipment and tower crane operator, working for Irving, Mills and Harbour construction, among others. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Odd Fellows, Bramber New Horizons, and several community groups. He was also a skilled home-mechanic and loved tinkering and fixing cars in his garage. He played baseball and hockey in his younger days, often reminiscing with friends about the good ole days. His door was always open to anyone needing to borrow a tool or helping to fix a car. A loyal Montreal Canadiens fan, he loved watching all the games and discussing his team’s strengths (and weaknesses) – if he saw you in public wearing his team colors, be sure a laugh and chat would follow – whether he knew you or not! Even though he faced serious health issues, he still took part in the activities he enjoyed; bowling, attending jams, shuffleboard and playing cards and going to crib tournaments. His laugh was infectious, and people were drawn to his good nature and big smile. Eric is survived by his children Susie (Terry), Shirley (Wade) and Johnny; his sister Anna, stepsister Beverley and stepbrother Earl. A devoted family man, he loved his children deeply, but there was no doubt that his pride and joy were his adoring grandchildren, who loved their Poppy deeply: Jessica (Brian), Kate, Nick, Sarah (Evan), Becky (Brad), Jonathan, Matthew (Meaghan) and Josh (Tiffany). He loved to spend time with his great-grandchildren, giving big hugs to Wyatt and Olivia, Cooper and Everleigh, Zoey, Abby, Brooklyn and Gavin. Eric was predeceased by his loving wife of 57 years, Marie, in 2018. He still grieved deeply and often said he was just passing time until they could be together again. Also predeceased by his mother, Elsie, father Carl (Lillian), adoptive parents Fen and Vickie, and daughter-in-law Chrissy. Although our hearts are broken and we can’t imagine a future without him, the family is comforted knowing he is no longer in pain and has been reunited with Marie, who he missed so much. “We lived together in love; we rest together in peace”. Cremation has taken place; a graveside service open to everyone will be held at the Bramber Cemetery on Saturday, August 8 at 11am, with a reception to follow at the Bramber New Horizons Center. Donations may be made to the Bramber New Horizons Center c/o Shirley Weatherbee, 102 Lantz Rd., Bramber, N.S. B0N 2R0. Arrangements have been entrusted to the compassionate care of the J.
