Roy E. Marquardt Obituary

Roy Marquardt, 85, of Peshtigo, passed away on April 7, 2020. He was born April 21, 1934 to George and Wanda (Lueskow) Marquardt of Lena and was the seventh (and last surviving) of nine children. He served in the US Army in the Korean War for two years. Roy married Burnette (Rohde) Marquardt on October 1, 1955 at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Grover after meeting her at a dance. Roy loved spending time in the woods and working with wood. With the help of some of his brothers and friends, he built his home on Right of Way Road in 1961. Years later, he remodeled and added to a cabin on family property off Highway 180 in Marinette. He made his living working at Thompson Boat, Rodman Industries and then as co-owner of a siding and remodeling business. He also used his talents making small furniture pieces for his family. Roy loved to hunt, fish, garden and make maple syrup. He always seemed extra lucky at cards and games, and it seemed that he could fix anything. He and Burnette traveled to all of the 50 states. With five children, nine grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren, Roy’s house he built was filled with laughter and love. Roy had the stamina and strength to live for 25 years with Parkinson’s and beat stage 4 melanoma with his wife, Burnette, at his side through it all. His handsome looks, willingness to help out, storytelling and sly sense of humor will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Burnette, and children, Karen (Dale Ganzow) Marquardt of Carlsbad, CA, Steve (Debbie) Marquardt of Suamico, Brian (Tammy) Marquardt of Centreville, VA, Brad (Sara) Marquardt of Whitewater, and Paul Marquardt of Peshtigo, grandchildren, Bryn Ganzow, Nikki (Ryan) Heaser, Joel (Brooke) Marquardt, Lauren Marquardt, Tyler (Kara) Marquardt, Zachary Marquardt, Allison Marquardt, Emily Marquardt and Andrew Marquardt, greatgrandchildren Zachary Heaser, Abby Heaser, Morgan Albert, Logan Albert, Hailey Marquardt, Raelyn Marquardt, Roy Marquardt, Barrett Marquardt, and Ford Marquardt. He is also survived by sister and brother-in-laws Irene Marquardt, Carol Marquardt, Don Heise, Claryce Rohde, Ralph Rohde, Jeannette (Duane) Kalm, John Kirt, and Betty Shaw, and by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Wanda, and siblings Harold (Esther) Marquardt, Lorraine (Frank) Bichanich, Leonard (Carol) Marquardt, Io (Leonhard) Zorn, George Marquardt, Bob Marquardt, Ila Heise, Bill (Merle) Marquardt. And sister and brother-in-laws Cliff (Mary) Rohde, Larry Rohde, Helen Rohde, Letty (Rodney) Berg, and Lou Kirt. The family will receive friends on Saturday June 20 from 9:30AM until time of funeral services 11AM at St John Lutheran Parish Grover. Military rights provided by the 20yr. Club will follow. Burial was held at Glenwood Memorial Garden in Marinette. A special thanks to Unity Hospice and the staff at Rennes East Nursing Home for their compassion and care.
