Elder Aubrey Hudson Obituary

Elder Aubrey Hudson

The mortal life of our beloved Rev. Aubrey Hudson began on February 8, 1943 in Brownsville, TN. He was one of seven children born to the late Robert and Pearlee (Beasley) Hudson.During his 77 years of life, he established, conquered and accomplished many life challenges, experiences and goals. He grew up in Brownsville, TN where he was educated in the Haywood County School System.  His teachings of Christianity began at home through his parents along with biblical teachings from St. Paul Baptist Church in Brownsville, TN. Rev. Hudson relocated to Decatur, Illinois and became a member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. It was in Decatur where he met and married, Bertha Voncile Hudson on July 25, 1970 and to this union 4 children were reared. Rev. Hudson answered his call into the ministry. He became an ordained Elder in the Church of God in Christ and was a member of Community Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor Willie F. Newbon. He later became the founder and Pastor of El Bethel Church of God in Christ, Decatur. Following his season of pastoring, he became of member of House of Faith C.O.G.I.C. and later returned to Community Temple C.O.G.I.C. He retired from Intermet /Wagners Casting Company after several years of service. Although retired, his work ethic and visions pursued. He also worked part-time at Sam’s Club, where he enjoyed greeting and talking to customers. Rev. Hudson endured the challenge of growing up in an era where Black people lacked proper education and wanted more for the young people of today. He had the vision to start a school. He had envisioned the name “Robertson” deriving from his father’s name Robert and him being the “son.” Many offered unseemly doubt about his idea and thought his dream was impossible. However, after much research, planning, teamwork and, most importantly, with the Lord on his side Robertson Charter School was established in July 2001. Rev. Hudson made history in the City of Decatur. Many knew and respected him as Rev. or Elder Hudson. He was adamant about the importance of exercise. He walked miles and miles a day until his health began to fail him. Even during his days of incapacitation, he believed that if he could just exercise, his health would improve. On the evening of Friday, April 3, 2020 he peacefully slipped away from this earth in the comfort of his home. His parting may have left a void, but he leaves many memories of his one of kind spirit in the hearts of his wife of 50 years, Bertha Voncile Hudson of Decatur, daughter, Sheridan (Jerome) Harrison of Decatur, sons, Brian (Jenny) Oliver of Decatur, Gregory Hudson of Des Moines, Iowa and Daniel Hudson of Decatur, 13 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Theresa (Walter) Winston, Dora (Andrew) Banks, Ilry Fox; brother-in-law, Amos Leon Fox and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, Joyner Family, Hill family and his former El Bethel Church family who were dear to him. Rev. Hudson was preceded in death by his parents, son, Timothy Hudson; siblings: Clyde Hudson, William Hudson, Robert Hudson, Elzadie Hudson, Bertha Hudson and Ruth Hudson, mother and father -in-law, Bertha Fox and Amos Fox, grandsons, Keenan Hudson and Dominique Hudson. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Annilee Rohrscheib, Dr. Yifei Sun, the DMH Wound Center, and Elara Caring Hospice.
