Kevin Lee Armstrong Obituary

Kevin Lee Armstrong died by suicide on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Being frank and open about this is his family’s attempt to offer a reminder to others to be kind, to be patient, and to be present. Most of his life, Kevin preferred solitude over the company of others. The obvious exception to that, of course, was his wife, Sheryl, over their more than fifty years together. For Sheryl (Mom), Kevin (Dad) will always be “the cutest little boy I ever saw.” He spent the better part of his career as a truck driver, both in furniture and later in freight—the perfect profession for the loner he was. Dad loved music, of all types, as long as it was loud. And dancing. He had taken up painting in recent years. He loved playing with his dogs, Coco and Te’o, though it’s no secret who his favorite was. Anyone who knew him will attest that he could fix virtually anything that had a motor, and most things that didn’t. Above all else, perhaps, he was the ultimate Boy Scout—always prepared. In fact, he was a ‘prepper’ way before that was a pop-culture reference and was openly proud of his stubborn self-sufficiency. Many, many people received the mandatory “gift of safety” from Dad each December: flashlights, first aid kits, bug-out bags, and the like. It was his attempt to prepare his family, including his four children: Kevin Kyle, Staci, Sara, and Sonya; his daughter-in-law: Tracy; and his three sons-in-law: Brian, Brian, and Rick. His ten grandchildren and their partners would get emergency kits for their cars as they reached driving age: Rebecca, Stefanie, Monica, William, Kimberly, Tyler, Trent, Kylee, Autumn, and Oliver. Even his two great-grandchildren, Noah and Dominic, would likely have gotten their first flashlights this year. No matter his efforts to prepare his family for crisis and uncertainty, he did not prepare them for this. In lieu of flowers and cards, please consider donating to Wolf Park (wolfpark.org) where Kevin sponsored two wolves over the years, Renki and Máni.
