Jordan Leon Glew Obituary

Jordan Leon Glew of Holladay, Utah, age 85, passed away March 28, 2020 at his home of causes incident to age. He was born in San Francisco in 1934. He married Maureen Shipp of Salt Lake City in the Salt Lake Temple in 1958, and they returned to employment in San Francisco. They have 5 children, 26 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Prior to marriage, Jordan served six years in the U.S. Army, and earned a degree in mathematics at San Francisco State University. Jordan was a 42-year career railroader with Southern Pacific railroad. He held several positions there, including steam and diesel locomotive fireman and engineer, civil engineer, computer systems developer and computer department manager. After retiring in 1993, he spent an additional two years with IBM as a railroad systems manager. Upon release as a bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in San Francisco in 1995, he and Maureen submitted their applications for a full-time church mission. Much to their delight, their call was to the Salt Lake Family History Mission. After twenty years as a genealogist there, “Elder” Glew “retired” again. Jordan was a table tennis enthusiast, and medaled frequently at regional and international competitions. He loved to play table tennis (“ping pong”) with his children and grandchildren, and was an avid coin, stamp, and postmark collector. He exercised regularly, and completed a personal “triathlon” – running, biking, and walking – of 25,000 miles each, including walking every single street of his hometown San Francisco! That's a good thing, because he often enjoyed a big bowl of ice cream! Having endured two major San Francisco earthquakes, Jordan dedicated himself to family preparedness, serving his family and church in that capacity for ten years. Jordan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Maureen, and by his five children, Elaine (Bob Gubler), Cheryl (Jed Johnson), Linda (Mark Allen), David (Nancy), and Kathleen (Scotty Carmack). He is also survived by both his siblings Arlene (Herb Williamson) and Everlie (T. Jordan Powell). He is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Hilma Glew. Jordan was a loving son, husband, and father. He leaves a legacy of devotion and service to God, country, family, and friends. A graveside service will be held for immediate family only. A memorial service will be held when circumstances allow. In lieu of flowers, please send memories of Jordan to his daughter Kathleen at soulseedstah@gmail.com so she can compile them for the family.
