Susan (Sally) Zavell Obituary

Susan (Sally) Zavell (nee Spike),90, of Elyria, Ohio passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 8, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. and was a 1947 graduate of Elyria High School. She was a member of Temple B’nai Abraham. Sally relished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, as family was everything to her. Perhaps her most important role was caregiver to her husband of 69 years. Her devotion and dedication was unmatched, and all of us marveled at how at the age of 90, she was able to care for him at home independently. She was always there to lend a helping hand to friends and family, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Edward; daughter Linda (James) Steedman; son Paul (Diane) Zavell; grandchildren Lisa Steedman, Jennifer (Joe) Cuevas, Ryan Zavell, and Adam Zavell; great grandsons Alec Cuevas and Bryce Cuevas; 1 sister Elaine (Stan) Shayne of Hilton Head; sister-in-law Sandra Spike. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Gertrude (Steinberg) Spike; her brother Lester Spike; and infant granddaughter Julie Steedman. A private graveside service was held. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Avon Cleveland Clinic, from the ER to the ICU, and the outstanding support from the Hospice of the Western Reserve. Arrangements were entrusted to the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elyria, 440-322-4626. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.laubenthalmercado.com
