Earlene Harp Obituary

Earlene (Carpenter) Harp passed away on March 29, 2020 ten days short of her 94th Birthday. She had been living and being cared for at Crescent City Skilled Nursing Facility for the last 2 years. Earlene was born on April 8, 1926 to Pleas Jackson Trigleth and Effie (Knight) Trigleth in Jennie, Arkansas. She was one of six children, Annie Morgan, Louise Jennings, Velma Berry, Joseph Trigleth, and Stella Herold. She married Clyde Abraham Carpenter on March, 9, 1941 in Hamburg, Arkansas. Earlene and Clyde had six children: Clyde A. Carpenter Jr, Pleas Edward Carpenter, Earlene Carpenter, Shirley Olivia (Carpenter) Ridgway, Judy Ann (Carpenter) Shellabarger, Debbie Sue (Carpenter) Brous. Earlene and Clyde moved from Fountain Hill, Arkansas to Crescent City, Ca. with their five children in the summer of 1953 to seek employment and to make a better life for their family. On October 24, 1956 Earlene and Clyde had their youngest child, Debbie. Debbie was teased by her siblings as being the only Yankee in the family. Earlene, while rearing six children, found work as a Nurses Aid at the County Convalescent Hospital and Seaside Hospital. Earlene later earned her License as Vocational nurse and continued to work at Seaside Hospital until she retired. She took her nursing profession seriously and had very high standards for those in it. She also sold Avon products in her spare time. Clyde went to work at Paragon Plywood, that later became Nor-Cal. Plywood. He worked there until he retired. Clyde eventually passed away on July 9, 1982. Earlene later married John Harp. Earlene and John resided at 191 Cook Street until he passed away. She remained there until she was unable to care for herself. Earlene was a very strong-willed hardworking woman who loved her family and was very protective of them. Those who knew her know what we mean. No one messed with her children. Earlene was a long-time member of the New Life Church and volunteered at the Del Norte Senior Center for many years. Earlene had eighteen grandchildren and too many to count great grandchildren. Earlene is preceded in death by her parents, Pleas and Effie Trigleth, her husband’s Clyde Carpenter and John Harp, her daughter, Judy Shellabarger, her sisters, Annie of Lake Village, Arkansas, Louise of Monroe, Louisiana, brother, Joseph of New Orleans, and two grandchildren, Heather Carpenter, and Christopher Carpenter, son-in-law, John Ridgway, and great grandchildren Shawn McHenry and Trevor Evanow. Earlene is survived in death by Clyde Jr. of Crescent City, Pleas Edward and daughter-in-law, Cydney, of Boise, Idaho, Debbie and son-in-law, David Brous, of Crescent City, Shirley Ridgway of Crescent City, Earlene Carpenter of Mountain Home, Idaho, son-in law Ron Shellabarger, of Crescent City, and grandchildren: Heidi Carpenter, of Boise, Idaho, Tami Carpenter Evanow, of Boise Idaho, Clyde Carpenter of Hiouchi, Katherine May Carpenter Inge, of Nebraska.
