Dennis Wayne Maples, beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle and grandfather, passed away on March 28, 2020 in the Springfield Rehabilitation & HealthCare Center, located in Springfield, Missouri. Born on April 20, 1942 in Ponce de Leon, Missouri, Dennis was survived by his wife, Karol, brother, Roy, children, Barbara, Lisa and DW, and his niece and nephews, Kathy, Darin, Steve and Mike, including their spouses and grandchildren. His parents, Roy and Lena, former spouse, Sharon, and sister, Jimmy, all of which predeceased him share the loss of this great man along with his surviving family and friends. Dennis was enlisted in the Army as an Artillery Surveyor from 1959 to 1962. He traveled the world before getting married to Sharon and settling down in Waimea, Hawaii then having three children. Dennis also actively participated in his niece and nephews’ lives, having visited them often. He was an avid golf player, history enthusiast and living room Jeopardy Champion. Dennis was loved by many for his positive attitude and charming disposition. Although he is gone, his memory will always keep those who knew him warm, and smile remembering his sharp wit and magnetic personality. Good day Dad, thank you for your love and sacrifice. We will all miss you, sleep now and rest well. A memorial service will be held on June 18, 2020, with a final salute at 11:15 AM at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, 2001 West Walnut Lawn Street, Springfield, MO, then inurnment following at noon at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO, where he will receive full military honors. Due to cemetery COVID restrictions, only 10 family members/friends are allowed to be in the committal shelter at the cemetery. This will be enforced by the superintendent at MO Veterans Cemetery. Care has been entrusted to Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Ltd. – DeGraffenreid-Wood-Crematory, Springfield, MO.
