Beaumont, Elizabeth “Bessie” Pike - age 87, Truro, passed away on March 28, 2020 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Rencontre East, NL on September 2, 1932. She was predeceased by the love of her life in 2014, Bill. A void she could never fill after his death. She leaves behind sons, Victor (Colleen), Darryl (Patti); daughter, Bev (Dave); grandsons, Victor and Michael; granddaughters, Lori-Anne, Brittany; great grandchildren, Tyairah and Melique; sister, Milly and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Jessie; sisters, Edna (Randall), Lilly (Cyril); mother and father-in-law, Mina and Victor Beaumont; brother and sister-in-law, Victor and Rita Beaumont. She was a very talented and independent lady and to all who knew her, she always carried a smile. In high school, she studied telegraphy and postal duties, sending and receiving by Morse code for three years. At the age of eighteen, she left Newfoundland to seek a career in Nova Scotia. She joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce and over the years, she was employed with the Bank of Montreal in Dartmouth, Spryfield, Halifax and Victoria, BC. They moved to Hilden in 1970 from Victoria, BC where Bill was finishing up his naval career. They became involved in community events. Bessie was instrumental in starting the Hilden Fire Brigade Ladies Auxiliary. She started and ran the Hilden Christmas Craft Fair for many years and it is still popular today. She worked alongside her husband for ten years, bookkeeping and whatever needed to be done. Knitting was one of her passions, she participated in many craft sales and she became known as the “sweater lady.” She was well known in the Nova Scotia Exhibition where she won many ribbons. She loved to travel with her family, crossing back and forth across Canada and the United States many times. She was a member of TOPS Truro and Bible Hill for over 45 years. She loved serving different positions and organizing the Christmas party for many years was one of her favorite functions. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the St John’s Anglican Church, Truro. Reception will follow in the church hall. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Colchester SPCA or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro.
