Virginia E. Cappuccilli Obituary

Virginia E. Cappuccilli, 96, of Camillus, passed away Saturday, March 28, 2020 at The Cunningham Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility. A lifetime resident of Syracuse, she moved to Camillus in 1986. She was born on July 17, 1923 and was the daughter of the late Steve and Thalia Evans. A graduate of Syracuse Central High School and Powelson Business Institute, she held secretarial positions at WFBL radio station, Remmington Rand, Inc. and General Electric. After raising her children, she returned to work in the Syracuse School District. Virginia married her husband, Michael in May 1951. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and was the happiest when surrounded by family. Virginia and Mike enjoyed their summers in Alexandria Bay and winters in Florida, where they developed a wide social network. Virginia was an active member of her Homeowners Association and Camillus Seniors, and was admired by neighbors and friends for her genteel charm, grace and quiet strength. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Gini enjoyed the arts, and often attended theatrical and musical performances. She also loved to dance and never missed a USO party during the 1940s. She and Mike were smooth dance partners. On one recent vacation, Gini was swinging to live jazz, with the help of her walker. Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Michael; son, Marc; and sisters, Victoria Drozdal and Anastasia Riebel. Surviving are her daughter, Marcia (Ronald) Squadere of Niskayuna, NY; son, Dr. Michael Cappuccilli of Philadelphia, PA and his partner, Dr. Christopher Roche; grandchildren, Lauren and Michael Squadere (US NAVY); and many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a private ceremony for immediate family was held in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in St. Mary’s Cemetery, DeWitt, where she was entombed. A memorial celebration will be planned at a future date. Contributions in Virginia’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
