Robert Wallis Obituary

Robert Eugene Wallis, 87, of Overland Park, Kan., died, March 20, 2020. He was born April 26, 1932, in Beaver Falls, Penn., to Charles E. and Dorothy M. Wallis. He graduated from high school in Warren, Penn., in 1950 and was drafted into the Army in 1952. Bob was accepted into Officer Candidate School, graduating in 1954. Shortly after being accepted, Bob married Audrey Jane Riley on April 28, 1954. Bob and Audrey enjoyed a loving 65-year marriage and had two children. After a 20-year military career, Bob retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1973 and he and Audrey made their home in Leavenworth, Kan. Bob, who had a life-long love of woodworking, started his own business repairing antiques but gradually moved to creating reproduction 18th century furniture. He especially loved creating pieces from the Goddard/Townsend cabinet-making families of Newport, R.I. In addition to making furniture for clients, Bob built many pieces for his own family. Bob enjoyed flying and after earning a private pilot’s license took his family on several trips around the country. Both Bob and Audrey enjoyed traveling in their retirement years and saw much of the country by RV going to many national parks and historic sites. Bob is survived by his wife; a daughter, Sandra Wallis both of Overland Park, Kan.; and his sister, Marjorie Baughman of Bagley, Minn. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Eugene II; a sister, Thelma Johnson; and his brother, Donald Wallis. A private burial will take place immediately at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery with a memorial service announced at a later date. Arrangements in care of R.L. Leintz Funeral Home.
