Joanne M. Updegrove, 89, of The Middletown Home, Lower Swatara Twp., and formerly of Steelton and Oberlin, died Wednesday, March 25, 2020 in UPMC Pinnacle Community Osteopathic Hospital, Lower Paxton Twp. She was a retired Legal Technician at the former New Cumberland Army Depot and a retired Legal Secretary for the Tribunal of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Harrisburg. She was a former member of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Steelton, served on its Parish Council, and was a volunteer Secretary for the Parish. She was a former member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, the American Businesswomen's Assn., the Riverview Golf Club Ladies League, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Joanne was the daughter of the late Albert G. and Catherine T. Jackson Updegrove. She is survived by three nieces, Nancy Sacarakis, Kathleen Handley and Joan Haviland; three nephews, Daniel Updegrove, Robert Updegrove, and Richard Updegrove; numerous great nieces and great nephews, and great great nieces and great great nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her sisters, Alice George and Agnes "Betty" Updegrove and her brothers, Albert Updegrove and Richard Updegrove. Private Graveside Services and Burial will be held on Monday at the convenience of the family in Holy Cross Cemetery with Rev. James Lease, her Pastor, officiating. A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Wiedeman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Steelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine Laboure Roman Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg, PA 17111.
