Isaac Henry Klassen St. Catharines, Ontario Obituary

Isaac Henry Klassen

This week we had to say goodbye ... till we meet again ... to an amazing man. Isaac (Ike) Klassen. He passed on Monday March 23, 2020 at the St. Catharines General Hospital at the age of 97. Loving and devoted husband to Lois Klassen (Brinn) and loving father to Brian Klassen (Patti) and Linda Klassen. He was also survived by his grandchildren Stephanie, Cassandra, Amber and Kiki and many nieces and nephews. Survived by his brother Dave Klassen and sister-in-law June Davis. Predeceased by his brother Bernie Klassen, sister Mary Enns (Ike) and sister in law Joyce Klassen. Born in Ostewick, Ukraine on March 19, 1923, he was the son of Isaac Klassen and Maria Klassen (Hildebrand). They lived in Manitoba and Saskatchewan before settling in the Niagara area. He was a fighter pilot in the RCAF, he was proud that he graduated top in his class, and specialized in low level recognisance flights. He worked at General Motors for 43 years where he was lucky to meet his wife Lois. Their first date was New Years Eve. Anyone who knew Ike remembers his love for his family, his sense of humor, willingness to help others and always fixing things. He was a very avid golfer and loved boating, fishing, swimming and waterskiing. His family not only consisted of blood relatives but he had a huge extended family .. family by choice. He loved all of you. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the St. Catharines General Hospital, Douglas Memorial Hospital and at the Heatherwood Retirement Residence. You were all so compassionate and caring. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) or The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Walker Family Cancer Center. "Fill not your hearts with pain and sorrow, but remember me in every tomorrow. Remember the joy, the laughter, the smiles, I've only gone to rest for a little while. Although my leaving causes pain and grief, my going has eased my hurt and given me relief. So dry your eyes and remember me, not as I am now but as I used to be. Because I will remember you all and look on with a smile. Understand, in your hearts, I've only gone to rest for a little while. As long as I have the love of each of you, I can live my life in the hearts of all of you"
