Dr. John Edgar Awalt
Dr John Edgar Awalt Passed away Friday March 20, 2020 in Rochester MN under Mayo Clinic hospice care. He was born November 24, 1931 in Flint, Michigan. He was raised in Richmond VA where he met and married his friend and constant companion of 68 years, the late Constance P Awalt. After completing a DVM from the University of Georgia Veterinary College 1958, they became residents of Bremen, GA where he built his animal practice and raised their four children: William Awalt, the late Patrick Awalt, Teresa Awalt and Mellinee Awalt Teal. His passion for treating animals and raising bird dogs continued under his successor, Stacy Hollingsworth, DVM until his health became prohibitive. Dr, Awalt was one of the founding members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, an alumnus of Linton Hall Academy in Virginia, the Benedictine School for Boys in Richmond, Virginia Tech, and a US Naval veteran. Respecting his final wishes, any donations can be made to the Haralson County Animal Control in his honor.
