Michael Joseph Lynch

Michael Joseph Lynch, 80, of Granby, beloved husband for 55 years of Christine (Pryor) Lynch, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020, surrounded by his family at his home. Born in Hartford on April 13, 1939, son of the late John Kimball and Mabel (Clark) Lynch, he was raised in Bloomfield and was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Class of 1958. After high school, Mike worked at Combustion Engineering before enlisting in the Connecticut Air National Guard where he served for 32 years until his retirement as a budget analyst in 1993. During his retirement, he looked forward to working at the Big E each Fall. Mike and Chris also enjoyed travelling the USA and Europe. A devout Catholic throughout his life, Mike was a parishioner of St. Therese Church since moving to Granby. A resident for 55 years, Mike was a member of the Granby CERT team, Granby Senior Center, Granby Grange, Shannon-Shattuck Post #182 American Legion, and the Salmon Brook Historical Society. He was also a founding volunteer of the Granby Durable Medical Loaner Closet. He was an avid gardener and a member of the Tri-State Hosta Society who loved to give family and friends tours of his gardens. He also enjoyed collecting nutcrackers and Santa figurines of all shapes and sizes that he displayed around his home. An avid storyteller, Mike would frequently entertain his grandchildren with stories starring the nutcrackers. Over the years, Michael enjoyed riding his motorcycles on the country roads around his home. Most of all, Michael will be remembered as a family man who loved his family and was proud of all of grandchildren. Besides his wife, he leaves three children, Paula Manzella and her husband Roger of Hainesport, NJ, Maura Fleming and her husband Shawn of Simsbury, and Robert Lynch and his wife Jennifer of Larchmont, NY; 11 grandchildren, Emily, Christopher, Bridget, and Catherine Manzella all of Hainesport, NJ, Mallory Hamilton and her husband Nicholas of Walton, KY, Brittany Fleming and partner, Garon Miller, of Winsted, Carter Fleming of Simsbury, and Makena, Ty, Harleigh, and Chance Lynch all of Larchmont, NY; and two great-grandchildren, Lydia and Claudia Hamilton, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Joseph Lynch, Jr.; a sister, Paula Lynch; four brothers, Reverend John K., Jr., Edward, James, and Thomas Lynch; and a sister-in-law, Elaine (Christ) Lynch. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his caregivers, Phillip, Matthew, John, and Paul for their expert care and dedication to the family over the last two years. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Therese Church in Granby. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to be announced. Donations in his honor may be made to the Granby Durable Medical Loaner Closet or the Granby Ambulance Association.
