Joan E. Koether Obituary

Joan E. Koether, 79, of Whitehouse Station, New Jersey passed away at home with family by her side on Monday, December 12, 2016, after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of the late Harold V. Eisenhauer and late Katherine B. Eisenhauer. She was a 1955 graduate of Philipsburg High School and remained an active alumnus until her death. Joan was an avid supporter of the Philipsburg High School football team acting as Treasurer of the Garnet and Grey Booster Club. In addition, she was the President of the Class of 1955 Alumni Association. Joan worked in the Physics Department at Princeton University retiring in 2001 after 21 years. Prior to moving to Whitehouse Station, Joan lived in Princeton, New Jersey for many years where she was active in many charitable and civic organizations. In her retirement, she remained active traveling, doting over her grandchildren, decorating, and volunteering for a number of organizations including the Far Hills Country Day School Grandparents Committee. Joan was known for her grace, generosity, youthful exuberance, and love of her family. She was the loving and supportive mother of five sons. She was predeceased by her son Douglas T. Koether in 2014. She is survived by her sons Paul J. Koether of Titusville, NJ, Robert W. Koether of Derby, CT., Jonathan Scott of Whitehouse Station, NJ, and Timothy S. Koether and his wife Janet Hall Koether of Bernardsville, NJ. She is also survived by her brother Thomas Eisenhauer of Calabash, NC, sister Nancy Davis of Princeton, NJ, 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. The family will hold a Celebration of Life in January 2017 with details to follow. Cremation was private and under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 7 Ridgedale Ave., Cedar Knolls, NJ 07927.
