Joyce Annette York

Joyce York, 66, of Palestine, IL, died on March 20, 2020, at her home. She was born January 9, 1954, in Danville, IL, the daughter of James Miller & Norma (Finkbiner) Miller, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also raised by Audrey Miller, who also preceded her in death. She married Theo York on September 7, 1991, and he preceded her in death on June 10, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her son, Brian Spicer; by her son-in-law, George Harvey; by her brother, William Miller; and by her brother-in-law, Roy Johnston. She is survived by her children, Stephanie Harvey (Monticello, IL) and Bradley & Erika Spicer (Sheridan, IN); by her grandchildren, Jathen, Sydni, Sofia, Sylvia, and Grayson; by her siblings & their spouses, Barbara Gail Pereira, John David & Charlotte Jordan, Arthur & Valerie Jordan, JoAnne Johnston, Janet & Jeff Poynter, Rhonda Jordan-Doyle & her husband, Hal, and Roy Michael & Peg Jordan; by her sister-in-law, Becky Miller; as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce grew up in Indianola, IL and was a graduate of Jamaica High School. From an early age, it was evident in the way she lived that her life would be one founded on sacrificial love. This was evident in her calling as an LPN, with Joyce having the opportunity to care for countless people over the course of her career. Anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that she poured herself into her role as caretaker; not only for her patients at Paris Healthcare or for the beloved animals she adopted over the years, but for her loved ones as well. They, in particular, will remember Joyce's fierce sense of loyalty. It didn't matter what you've done, she would stand by you in any and every storm. Her family brought life to her living, especially her grandchildren, who were each the apple of her eye. She had the beautiful opportunity to witness all three of her precious granddaughters be born and adored both of her grandsons with all her heart. Joyce York was a soul who gave enormously, while asking for very little. In short, Joyce loved, and she loved well. However, she would be the first to offer that she wasn't perfect. She recognized her need for a Savior, which is why she put her life in Christ's hands years ago. Because of this, we have the assurance that her light still shines brightly in a place where darkness and death are no more. Joyce deserves a memorable tribute. However, in this uncertain time, the family and the staff of the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine understand that attending such a service may not be in your best health interest. With this in mind, a memorial service will be set for a later date.
