Robert Raymond Sestak Obituary

In Loving Memory of Robert R Sestak June 28th, 1937 – March 20th, 2020 Robert Raymond Sestak was born June 28th, 1937 to Robert and Lillian (Petrik) Sestak in Yankton, SD and grew up on the family farm in Tabor. He graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Agricultural Engineering. Robert married the love of his life, Louanne Sestak, on September 5th, 1964 in Winslow, AZ. Robert worked as a civil engineer with the Bureau of Reclamation in Page, AZ. He worked in Rifle, CO on a dam for two years and then moved the family to Fremont, CA after accepting a job at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). After four years he and his family moved to the Seattle area working on various projects ranging from road building to control towers and radar sites. After all of his kids left the nest Robert took a job in Salt Lake City, still with the FAA overseeing site preparation for various computer systems. After two years he and Louanne moved back to the Seattle area and enjoyed a long happy retirement spending time with family and friends. Robert enjoyed traveling and took his family on many road trips across the country and always made sure we visited historical monuments, museums and national parks along the way. One of his most memorable trips was traveling through the Czech Republic where he was able to visit the homes of his great grandparents. The Pacific Northwest always impressed Robert. On weekends he would take his family traveling extensively around the area, along the coast, and into Canada. He had a strong love of the outdoors and passed that on to his children and grandchildren. He took his family on many hiking, camping and skiing trips. He got involved with the Scouts and coaching and playing soccer. In his later years he enjoyed playing softball and was part of an exercise support group called Rock Steady Boxing. He volunteered often at the St. Stephen the Martyr Food Bank helping those in need. Robert loved spending time with his family discussing current events, playing pinochle, and watching his grandchildren play sports. He was a family man with a gentle, humble and kind soul. Robert is survived by his beloved wife, Louanne; son, Paul Sestak; daughter, Janene Sestak; daughter, Michelle (Trent) Hager; six grandchildren: Susan, Jessica and David Sestak and Michael, Mason and Tyler Hager. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillian; brother, Joseph Sestak; brother Ronald Sestak. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a future date when it is safe to gather. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Stephen the Martyr Food Bank or St. Stephen’s Housing Association, 13055 SE 192nd Street, Renton WA 98058.
