Giovanni "John" Palermo

Giovanni “John” Palermo, 78, of Ambler, passed away on March 20, 2020 at Abington Hospital- Jefferson Health. He was the beloved husband of Bianca M. (Colelli) Palermo, they would have been married 52 years on July 15th. John was born in Maida, Province Catanzaro, Italy on January 16, 1942 to the late Vincenzo and Giuseppina (Costantino) Palermo. He attended school in Italy, where he also was trained as a Barber. He later came to the United States and settled in Ambler with his wife, and opened John’s Barber Shop where he was owner and operator for 52 years, until just recently due to his illness. He enjoyed each day working at the shop, talking with his customers, discussing local news, and sharing stories of the old times, many of whom became good friends. John enjoyed following soccer, especially the teams in Italy, and was a soccer coach locally for the WAC some years ago. He also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino. He adored his family, and cherished time with them, especially his granddaughters. In addition to his wife Bianca, he is survived by his son Vincent Palermo and wife Lisa of Ambler, his 2 granddaughters Briana and Julia Palermo, his 4 sisters Caterina “Nina” Bova (the late Antonio) of Ambler, Maria Reale (the late Gaetano) of Ambler, Marianna Martucci (Rosario) of Maida, Italy, Angela Stagliano (Pino) of Asti, Italy, also many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by a niece Giuseppina “Josie” Martucci. The Funeral and Christian burial will be held privately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A public Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations in John’s name may be sent to the American Cancer Society www.cancer.org, are appreciated.
