Roy Bankhead

Roy Lee Bankhead, 89, Tulsa, Oklahoma passed away March 20, 2020 at 03:10pm at Zarrow care center. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the near future. Roy was born in Dallas, TX, August 2, 1930, raised in Tulsa, OK. Growing up, he loved swimming, diving, and being a Boy Scout. He was a lifelong collector of coins and stamps. He graduated from Central High School, Tulsa, OK in 1948. After High school graduation, he worked for Standard oil company in Tulsa and Odessa, Texas. In 1952-54 he served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He played football for Army and was recruited by OU but declined the offer. After Korea, He graduated from Oklahoma University BBS and later Oklahoma City University School of Law. JD. He did all this while holding a full time job with 3 young daughters. He earned a private pilot license as well. He owned and operated Mr. Rooter sewer and drain company for 25 years from a mini storage business that still operates. He flipped houses when it wasn’t cool, he was an investor, a commercial realtor etc, etc, etc. He was a baby boomer through and though. He never owned a new car, instead He saved and scrimped his entire life to pay to pay for his retirement and medical bills all the way to the end. He was all things Oklahoma football and golf. He recognized the OU fight song even in his last hours. I’m Sooner born and sooner bred and when I die, I’ll be Sooner dead, Rah Oklahoma, Rah Oklahoma Rah Oklahoma, OK U BOOMER SOONER He spent most of his adult life on the golf course until he could no longer walk. He loved politics and even ran for a City Councilman. A flag pin can be seen on his lapel in every picture wearing a suit coat. He volunteered in the community and loved to socialize. Even when he was weak and could barely talk, he knew who the President was and the latest score of an OU game. He passed away peacefully with his daughters next to him. His survivors include, Kim Rene Reed, Dana Lee Christie, (Rick). Lora Dee Schreur. (JB). 4 grandchildren, Vanessa Avery, Brooke Uola, Jacob and Ellie Schreur.
