William Thomas Rayfield

William Thomas Rayfield was born on April 19, 1943 to the late Alfred Rayfield and Adell Finney. He departed this life on March 20, 2020 at his home after battling a lengthy illness. William was educated in the Accomack County School system. “Black Hawk,” as he was known, was employed as a truck driver for over twenty years for various trucking companies. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland, where he assisted with the groundskeeping. His favorite songs included, The Other Shore by Luther Barnes and I Can’t Even Walk by Darrell McFadden and the Disciples. William loved to spend his time sitting at McDonalds talking with June, Al, and the late Louis Jubilee, playing cards at Betty Lou’s, and dancing. He was preceded in death by his siblings: LuTisha, Thomas, and Elroy; granddaughter, Shicola Finney; and his loving stepfather, Edward Finney, who raised him. William is survived by his five children: Louis Finney (Annie Harmon), Betty (McKinley) Pettit, both of Parksley, VA, Tanya (Sam) Bright of Washington, DC, William Berryhill, and Tykia Berryhill, both of Exmore, VA; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; loving siblings, Ernest (Debbie) Matthews of Savageville, VA and Chatta Mae (Perry) Dennis of Salisbury, MD; loving companion, Sharon Burns; loving and caring nurse, whom he called his wife, Dana Lilliston; special granddaughter, Dykeya Custis, who cared for him until the end; and a host of other family and friends.
