Magdelene E. Hermanson Obituary

Magdelene E. Hermanson

Magdalene Eugenia (Wetzstein) Hermanson was born on a farm near Timmer, North Dakota on December 20, 1920, and passed away on March 20, 2020. Maggie was the second born of sixteen children. She met her husband Vernon of Mandan after he returned from World War II. They left North Dakota in 1948 to find work, settling in Los Angeles. After raising their family and Vernon’s retirement, they moved to Washington state. Maggie was a devout Catholic who, until unable to attend mass, was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven and St. Charles Borromeo parishes. She was, for many years, a very active member of VFW Post 174. She found many close friends through her church and VFW Ladies Auxiliary associations. Maggie was a superb cook, master gardener, and excellent seamstress, needlepointer, and crocheter. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband of forty-two years, her parents, and twelve siblings. She is survived by her daughter Linda (Robert) Heckendorf of Riverside, California; twins Melvin (Diana) Hermanson of Hereford, Arizona and Melanie Hermanson of Tacoma, Washington. She was a grandmother to five and a great-grandmother to one. She is also survived by her sisters, Kathy and Rosie, and her brother, Ralph. Maggie was unconditionally loved by all. The family would like to thank the staffs of Franciscan Hospice, Cordial Palace Adult Family Home, and Merrill Gardens Tacoma for their compassionate care. In Lieu of flowers, donations in Magdalene’s name can be made to The Humane Society for Tacoma-Pierce County.

Uncle Vernon was my favorite uncle, and it follows that aunt Maggie was a part of that. They were so full of life, the life of the party. Alan Wahl

I remember Aunt Maggie as always happy, and with a ready smile, and quick laugh, whenever she was back in North Dakota to visit. She lived a long full life, may she rest in peace. Becky Markel, Mandan ND (daughter of Margaret & Lucas Leingang, Maggie's sister)
