John C. Winbun, age 69, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020. John is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lois Winbun; his sons, Christopher (Traci) Winbun, Matthew (Bianca Lollino) Winbun and Michael Winbun; his grandchildren, John, Nathan, Violet, Austin, Hailey and Madison; his parents, Ova Lee (Elinore) Winbun; his brother, Wayne (Kathy) Winbun and a sister-in-law, Gail Winbun. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his two brothers, Lee Winbun and Larry Winbun. His faithful dog, Molly. John was born on March 22, 1950 in Chicago, IL. He was raised in Chicago and attended St. Andrews Lutheran grade school and was the class of 1970 at Hubbard High School. John started his career at Carson Pirie Scott & Company as a warehouse worker with his brother Wayne. After Carson’s closed, he went to work for Harlem Furniture with his brother Larry. When Carson’s reopened in Naperville, Il, John went back to work for them. John was very proud of his 37 years working at Carson’s. John reunited with his childhood friend, Lois Sahs and they married on October 6, 1984, their song was "COULD I HAVE THIS DANCE" by Anne Murray. John enjoyed football, softball, basketball and loved to play chess. John also had collection of elephant figurines, his favorite animal. John also loved to bowl and go to Maple Lake and enjoy the scenery. One of John’s favorite things to do was to explore the woods. He moved his family to Joliet, IL in 2013 and attended Faith Lutheran Church where he made many friends. John and his sons loved to help the church with projects. They were a part of the raised garden beds that were built at Faith Lutheran that grew vegetables for Joliet people in need. John was also a Grandparent Guide for Advent Kids Camp at Christmas. Johns favorite bible passage became his confirmation verse. John 3:16” For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that who so ever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life". John enjoyed listening to country music and his favorite singers are Loretta Lynn, Kenny Rogers, Don Williams, Oakridge Boys and Alabama, 4 of these he saw in concert. John always wore a cowboy hat and was a hardworking man till the end. Johns favorite quote that he lived by, came from his favorite actor, John Wayne. "COURAGE IS BEING SCARRED TO DEATH-BUT SADDLING UP ANYWAY". Due to the unexpected circumstances of the COVID-19 virus, Farkas Funeral Home will be following the CDC guidelines. We are taking every precaution to ensure our staff, facilities and families are safe. In accordance with the CDC guidelines we are only allowing a limited amount of people in the funeral home to pay their respect to the surviving family members at a time. Please wait in your car and a staff member will escort you into the building and let you pay your respects for a limit time. Please keep in mind a respectful amount of time for others waiting in their cars. All in attendance will be required to maintain the social distancing rules. As we take the health of our staff and families very seriously; anyone showing signs of illness will not be permitted in the facility and asked to remain home to follow the quarantine guidelines. Funeral services will be held at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson Street Joliet, IL 60431 on Thursday March 26, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be at Bethania Cemetery in Justice, IL.
