Albert "Gabby" Steward Sr.

Albert L. “Gabby” Steward Sr, age 81, of Greenfield, passed away on March 20, 2020 at Hancock Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 4, 1939, in Carthage, IN to the late Forest & Bertha (Rumple) Steward. Albert attended Carthage High School. He married the love of his life, Shirley Steward, on September 6, 1974. Albert was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church. He spent his career as a mechanic and then drove a school bus for Greenfield Community Schools for over 20 years. Albert was an honorary member of the local VFW for his service playing taps for veteran services. He enjoyed playing music and played in a country band until he began playing for the Lord in church. He loved doing puzzles, bowling, going to flea markets and fishing, but most of all spending time with his precious family who he loved dearly. Left to cherish Albert’s memory are his wife, Shirley Steward; children, Albert (Robin) Steward Jr, Sheryl Smith (Dennis Woeltje), Brenda Robertson, Stacey (Greg) Williams and Scott (Frances) Robertson, 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, siblings; Floyd (Sharon) Steward, Alice (Charles) Baker, Virginia Davis & Violet Mefford, as well as, several nieces, nephews & cousins. Albert is proceeded in death by his parents listed above, children; Melinda Dawn, Nicholas Len & Stephen Steward. At this time all services will be privately held. The family has requested donations be made in honor of “Gabby” to Bethel Baptist Church, 1610 S. State St. Greenfield, In 46140. Thinking of family during the passing of "GABBY". We would listen to the band he played in & dance at the American Legion in greenfield,indiana. He was a hoot! GO REST HIGH ON THAT MOUNTAIN!
