Douglas ‘Doug’ Tonsfeldt, age 75 of Boone, died March 20, 2020 at the Madrid Home in Madrid. Following his wishes, Doug has been cremated. There will be no visitation or services at this time. A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be held at a later date. Douglas Orson Tonsfeldt, was born in Boone, Iowa on February 5, 1945, the son of Morris ‘Blondie’ and Alice (Marion) Tonsfeldt. Doug graduated from Boone High School; in Boone in 1963 and then attended AIB in Des Moines, graduating with a degree in accounting. On August 27, 1966, Doug married Jeanette Stoneburner at Augustana Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. Doug worked as an accountant for 45 years in the same building, for A.E. Staley, then Swift & Company, and later ADM, all soybean mill companies in Des Moines. He retired in 2012. Doug was a member of the Iowa Army National Guard for over 20 years and retired as a Staff Sergeant in 2005. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping with the family, golf, and was a ‘backyard mechanic’. He also enjoyed old country music and the ‘oldies’ on KIOA. He was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop #132, and was a long time member and former Exalted Ruler of the B.P.O.Elks #563 formerly in Boone. Doug loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Suellen McNab; father-in-law, Ed Stoneburner; brother-in-law, Harold McNab. Doug is survived by his wife, Jeanette of Boone; a son Mike (Mundi) Tonsfeldt of Ogden; two daughters, Kim (Heath) Waddell and Denise (Bob) Wulf all of Boone; his mother-in-law, Geneva Stoneburner of Boone; a sister, Leanne (Wayne) McCuen of Worthington, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Alyssa (Chad) Zimmerman of Ellsworth, Delaney Tonsfeldt and Jared Tonsfeldt both of Ogden, Coby Gideon, Jake Wulf, Zach Wulf, Cali Wulf all of Boone; two great grandsons, Case Peterson and Boyd Zimmerman; sisters-in-law, Carol (Dick) Wilson and Sandi (Bill) Bishop all of Boone; numerous nieces and nephews; and Doug’s best buddy, Gibbs his dog. In memory of Doug, memorials may be directed to the family.
