T. Kenneth Wilson Obituary

Ken passed quietly at home on the evening of March 20, surrounded by his wife and three children. Born August 8, 1930 in Fordwich, Ontario, he was the son of Thomas Alexander and Mable Dunn Wilson. He moved to Buffalo, NY in 1953 to work in his father’s garage, and, eventually, to attend the University of Buffalo where he earned a Ph.D. in English Literature. For nearly 40 years he was employed by Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he taught many classes and wore many hats in the English Department, including Assistant Department Chair and the first Director of Graduate Studies. He was a caring professor and advisor remembered for his humor, especially for his invisible, brilliant “student” Harvey the Rabbit who knew the answers when his students didn’t. Upon his retirement, his colleagues expressed their high regard for his professionalism and many contributions to the department by awarding him emeritus status by a unanimous vote. Ken is survived by his wife Jean, whom he married on September 2, 1961, and his three children, Laura Wilson, Adam Wilson, and Sarah Kaminski; a son-in-law, Dennis Kaminski; and grandchildren Marlo, Vaughn, Erin, Declan, Hayden, and Kendal. He is predeceased by his sister, Lenore Nicholls, brother Donald Wilson, and grandson, Graham. A service for the immediate family will be conducted by the Reverend Bill Geiger. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Livonia, New York.
