Leslie Katherine Myers Quincy, Illinois Obituary

Leslie Katherine Myers

One year ago on March 20, 2020, our Leslie Katherine Myers, beloved daughter, sister, and mother, age 48, of Quincy, passed peacefully to her heavenly home with her faithful dog, Ella, by her side. We will celebrate her life and legacy on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at 11:00 am at Emmanuel Church of the Nazarene (1527 Madison St. in Quincy). Pastor Kyle Frink will officiate. A visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am immediately preceding the service on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at the church. Leslie was born on October 5, 1971 in Wichita Falls, TX, to James Ronald Myers and Drenda Riley Myers Curtis. She graduated from Quincy Senior High School and attended John Wood Community College and Quincy University. She enjoyed working at Transitions of Western Illinois in the group home, and in later years, in the garden department at Lowe's. Leslie was a people-person and enjoyed the repeat customers who always asked for her. Leslie was a genuine person - what you saw was what you got. She loved and adored her son, Riley, and took great pride in all of his accomplishments, but most of all, she loved God, Jesus, and her family. She loved all of God's creations and took in any stray dog or cat who came to her home. She enjoyed flower gardening, with sunflowers and daisies being her favorites. Feeding and watching the birds, especially cardinals, was also a favorite pastime. Visiting with her bonus brother, Clif, and delighting in the rocks he gifted her with from the different states he had gone through while being an over-the-road truck driver always brought smiles to her. Leslie's favorite television show was The Golden Girls and she never tired of watching it. However, her passion was writing, mainly poetry, with her Facebook name being "Poetess Leslie Myers". She was very creative and had always dreamed of writing and publishing a children's book. One of her favorite foods was tacos and she often said she could live off of them. Leslie also enjoyed drinking her coffee. She delighted in taking her dog to the nursing home and visiting with the residents. Leslie liked the simple things in life and would have been just as happy living in a tent as living in a castle. Leslie will be remembered as ALWAYS striking up a conversation with anyone nearby and would have given the shirt off her back and her last penny to help anyone in need. She had a contagious laugh that when you heard it, you knew that was Leslie. She would often tell people, "Don't forget to laugh!" Leslie was a faithful member of Union United Methodist Church where she enjoyed teaching a youth Sunday School class. She enjoyed visiting and helping her mother with her home-based daycare business. The children always looked forward to Leslie's visits. Leslie is dearly missed by her mother, Drenda, of Quincy, IL; her son, Riley (Kim) of Chicago, IL; her sister, Dawn Michelle Rand (Eric) of Medford, OR; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who all knew and loved her. Leslie is now reunited with her father, James R. Myers; her bonus dad, Juan Ramon Curtis; her grandparents, Otis and Mary (Murphy) Myers and Roscoe and Thelma (Brookshier) Riley; and her fur babies, Otis and Blue. Leslie has already met Jesus and is now singing and dancing with Jesus and the angels - what a joyful reunion that must have been! I can only imagine they were all waiting for her and greeted her with joyful shouts and open arms.
