Jay Van Dareing of Miami, OK passed from this life Friday, March 20, 2020 at Integris Miami Hospital in Miami, OK. He was 97. Jay was born February 25, 1923 in Empire, OK to Marion Ray "Red" and Mary Elizabeth (Hill) Dareing. Jay grew up in Empire City (Tent City), OK where his dad worked in the oil fields. They later moved to Quapaw, OK where his dad pastored the Quapaw First Baptist Church. Jay attended Quapaw High School. He played basketball and baseball and he even traveled with a semi-pro team out of Springfield, MO, playing second base. Times were hard so he had to go to work to help support the family, since his pastor dad was paid with sacks of flour and garden produce. He started driving a truck for Hormel. He joined the United States Navy and served from 1941-1944. He married Rex Ann Taylor on June 13, 1946. They had three children, Jayne Danny and Terri. Jay was a factory worker for many years until he went into the gas station business. He managed the Texaco in Miami and later the Kerr-McGhee in Miami. Jay also coached baseball in he Miami Little League and Babe Ruth League. Jay and Rex Ann enjoyed fishing and camping and he loved deer hunting. Jay received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior as a young boy. He served as a deacon at Mound Valley Baptist Church and Liberty Baptist Church. He was a member of Northwest Baptist Church. He spent the last 5 years at Baptist Village in Miami where he made many friends. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 68 years, Rex Ann Taylor Dareing, his sisters, Earlene Cawyer (Roy), Louise Kidwell (Albert), Goldie Blanche Dareing, Wilma Wells (Jack), and Arana Lubin, his son, Danny Dale Dareing, adopted grandson, Michael Williams, and granddaughter, Angie Trask Douthit, many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews. Jay is survived by his daughters, Jayne Trask and her husband Jack and Terri Wilson and her husband Robert, daughter-in-law, Vee Dareing, his brother Ray Dareing, grandchildren, Mandi Smith, Cade Dareing, Elizabeth Nino, Christine Astley, Josh Wilson, Sam Wilson, Tara Thompson, 23 great grandchildren and 10 great great-grandchildren. For the health and safety of family and friends, due to coronavirus (COVID-19) private family graveside services will be held. Jay will lie in state at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, OK from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m.- 1 p.m. Monday for those who wish to sign the register book and pay your respects. Memorials are suggested to Gideons International. Services have been placed in the care of Paul Thomas Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Miami, OK.
