David Leo McFarland Obituary

David Leo McFarland, 64, of Longmont, CO went home to be with the Lord on March 19, 2020. David was born on January 26, 1956 in Longmont to Charles (Cecil) and Wanda (Rupalo) McFarland. We are all shocked and heartbroken at the sudden loss of such a good man. Dave died of stage 4 melanoma cancer which had already compromised his liver, lungs and kidneys before we knew he was sick. We are all comforted knowing that there is a big party up in heaven and Jesus has welcomed Dave with open arms saying “Welcome home my good and faithful servant!” Dave grew up in Longmont and ran around the streets of old town Longmont. We loved hearing stories of the adventures and mischief that he would get into back when Longmont was only a small town. In his early 20s, Dave learned the trade of plastic injection molding. He worked at various machine shops in Longmont and the surrounding area for the next 40 years, but spent the majority of his career at Avedon Engineering and Star Precision Manufacturing. It was at Avedon that he met the love of his life, Linda. He married Linda (Stout) on May 16, 1981 after just 6 months of dating. He was a devoted husband and the best Daddy to his 3 girls: Lindsey, Megan and Mary. Dave was a faithful servant to the Lord and enjoyed spending quiet mornings in prayer and reflection. He especially enjoyed reading and studying books on Christian Discipleship. He also spent many summer hours in his expansive garden. He loved the autumn season the most, when the nights turned crisp and the leaves began to change. He was an accomplished musician and mostly played the guitar. However, he also played the saxophone in the church orchestra and was known, on occasion, to serenade us with his accordion music. He was in Rocky Mountain Christian Church’s choir for several years and enjoyed the challenges of vocal music. He is preceded in death by his Father and Mother. He is survived by his wife Linda and daughters Lindsey (Taylor) Soutiea of Johnstown, Megan (Travis) Schlagel of Longmont and Mary (Chris) Allen of Dacono and his 7 grandchildren, Rylee, Calee, Natalee and Quinnlee Soutiea, Silas and Charlotte Schlagel and Skyler Allen. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date when we can all gather together to commemorate his legacy.
