Ralph O. Harmon, Sr. passed away peacefully on December 12, 2016 surrounded by family and his loving wife of 61 years Merian, after a courageous battle with several illnesses. He was born July 2, 1931 in Millsboro, Delaware. The son of the late Isaac O. Johnson and Helen R. Harmon. At age 21 he served in the Korean War. Upon returning from the war, he moved to Wilmington and worked at General Motors. Then they settled down in the Dover/ Hartly area and he went on to serve 30 years in the civil service at Dover Air Force Base. He was a Nanticoke Indian and a faithful member of the Nanticoke Indian Association. He was working towards receiving his tribal name which would have been “Tall Cedar”. He loved the Lord and was a life-long member of the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church. He loved tending to his garden and riding his beloved tractor. He was an avid hunter. He enjoyed their summer home in Millsboro and visiting his family and friends down there. He was skilled in Martial Arts and earned two belts. He loved his grandchildren and telling them tall tales and teaching them to hunt. He enjoyed spending time with his children, great-grandchildren, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other family. He appreciated all of the acts of kindness during his final weeks. He is preceded in death by his parents, his step-father; Leon E. Harmon, his sister; Delores Harmon, and his brother Leon Harmon, Jr. He is survived by his wife; Merian Harmon. His children; Ralph O. Harmon, Jr. (Millie) and Bonita Taylor (Chuck). His grandchildren; Tamara Subrick (Bill), Mark Harmon (Alicia), Kimberly Thomas (Brian), Ralph O. Harmon III, and Emily Harmon. Great-grandchildren; Karra, Asher, Julia, and Archer. Siblings; Anita Carney, Wilson Harmon, and Beverly Jackson. Godson; Charles Blaine Coursey and a host of other family members. Funeral Services will be held 1pm on Saturday, December 17, Visitation from 11am until 1:00, at Immanuel Union United Methodist Church in Cheswold, DE, 756 Main St, Cheswold, DE 19936. Burial services will be at the Veterans Cemetery in Millsboro, Delaware on Monday, December 19th ,2016 at 1:00 pm.
