Arlene Marie Mayo Obituary

Arlene M. “Tootie” Smith Mayo, age 86, of Erie, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, December 11, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born in Muncy, PA on June 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Grover and Clara (Brunschon) Smith. Arlene was employed by Erie Insurance and had retired in 2012. She loved a good slot machine, was an avid reader and enjoyed travelling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Mayo, who passed away Dec. 10, 1990 and four sisters: Eleanor Kleeman, Murl Confer, Lois Watson and June Shaner. Survivors include her eight children: Brian LeVan (Leslie) of Litchfield Park, AZ, Cheryl Lakes (James) of Williamsport, PA, Gail Barto (Gary) of Picture Rocks, PA, Randy LeVan (Laura), Joseph Mayo, John Mark Mayo (Tammy), Melanie Mayo (Kelvin Van Den Haas) and Wayne Mayo (Christine) all of Erie; her former daughters-in-law, Debra Mayo and Paige Pierce both of Erie; her beloved “baby boy”, Romeo (her pet cat) and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Arlene’s family wishes to gratefully acknowledge Great Lakes Hospice and Pastor Paul LeVan for the excellent care and comfort they provided during her final days. No calling hours will be observed. Private funeral services will be conducted at the convenience of the family. As per Arlene’s wishes, her remains have been donated to Humanity Gifts Registry for the purpose of furthering medical research. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine Student Scholarship Fund, attn. Dr. Sylvia Ferretti, 1858 W. Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16509.
