Effie "Lynn" Wagner Obituary

Effie "Lynn" Wagner Born May 22, 1934, Effie "Lynn" Wagner, 85, was promoted to Glory on Monday, March 16, 2020. Lynn was a sweet, gracious woman who lived a full life and was thoroughly loved by her family. Lynn was born to Robert Elftman and Olive (Carlsen) in Columbia Heights, Minnesota. When circumstances outside her control required it; she learned to work hard at a young age. She loved to dance. Her friends gave her the nickname Lynn after she mastered a dance called the Lindy Hop, her cherished name forever. Lynn was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Robert "Bob" Wagner, and her half-brother Robert Carlsen Jr. Bob and Lynn married and began their life together in Ann Arbor, Michigan having three children: William Wagner (Marilyn), Janis Canady (Rick), and John Wagner (Mary). Lynn gave up her career as a flight attendant to marry her husband. She was selfless, always putting her family first. She ran her home well, and everyone enjoyed her cooking and gathering for fabulous family meals. Her children were blessed to call her Mom. After raising their children, she worked as a travel agent for Colin Travel in Ann Arbor for several years and coordinated travel trips for the University of Michigan. St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church was Lynn's church home. She loved to sing and used her beautiful alto voice to glorify God in the church choir. Lynn also actively participated in the Ladies Aid association and devoted herself to many activities in the church. Lynn enjoyed her retirement years in Naples, FL. She enjoyed quilting, shelling at the beach and activities at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Her favorite times were when the family gathered, played, and laughed while visiting. She loved her three grandchildren and two step grandchildren: Nicole Wagner, Luke Wagner (Stephanie), Christopher Wagner, Cara Canady (Brian Callaghan), and Cameron Canady. Lynn was a loyal friend, a gracious hostess, and a wonderful wife and mother. She was grateful, respectful, patient, full of wisdom, witty and kind. She loved to laugh, brightening the world with her smile. Due to health and safety protocols and at the request of the Wagner family, there will be no funeral home visitation. The private funeral service for family only will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 10:00 am at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, with Rev John Gierach officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery for family only. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at a future date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church located at 2945 E Northfield Church Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
