Myrtle Blount Briley Coburn Fleming

Mrs. Myrtle Blount Briley Coburn Fleming, 90, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2020. A graveside service will be conducted on Tuesday at 3 PM in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Al Davis officiating. Mrs. Fleming was the last child of 17 born to the late Ellen Roberson Briley and Mack Johnson Briley. Mrs. Fleming, affectionately known as ‘Mama”, was special and blessed with the talent of singing and piano playing which was self-taught at age 6. She shared these talents throughout her life playing in churches, nursing homes, raising money for charities and last but not least, in the Rock and Roll Band, “The Impalas”. She spread her joy anywhere she could pull up her keyboard and sing. She was not satisfied until she had you laughing and crying. Mama had many jobs throughout her long life including “putting in tobacco”, working for Belk’s in sales and decorating the windows. She last worked for more than 13 years for Wal-Mart in the Garden Center as a Garden Expert and Christmas Decorator Extraordinaire. Mama never met a stranger and drew all kinds of people to her with her playful personality and sharp wit. She will be greatly missed by the many who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by husbands, Benjamin Samuel Coburn in 1956 and Bobby Earl Fleming in 1985, and all 16 of her siblings. She is survived by: Daughters, Gwen Coburn-Brown and husband, David, of Raleigh and Lee Ellen Parrott of Winterville; Granddaughter, Robin Waters Woody and husband, Jimmy; and Great-granddaughter, Reese Watterson Woody, all of Raleigh.
