David Samuel Cantrell, 67 years of age of Big Rock, VA, passed away Monday, December 5, 2016 in Pikeville Medical Center. Born May 27, 1949 in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Don and Ocie Ramey Cantrell. Sammy attended Bluefield Business College, was a retired scale house operator from Black Watch Coal Company. He enjoyed horses racing, deep sea fishing, watching wildlife and was of the Christian faith. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. Survivors include his loving wife of twenty-two years, Patricia Lynn Salyers Cantrell of Big Rock, VA; daughters Michelle Sutton and husband Jim of Richmond, VA; step-daughters Carol Lynn Hankins and husband Matt of Newport News, VA, Christin Tiea Johnson and fiancé Samuel Dock Pruitt of Harman, VA; sisters Lou Ellen Owens and husband Lonnie of Grundy, VA, Janet Hillard and husband Tom of Elizabethton, TN, Mary Looney and husband Gary of Big Rock, VA; brothers Danny Cantrell and wife Glenna of Big Rock, VA. He is also survived by his grandsons Ethan Helms and Rylan Hankins, several nieces and nephews, and special friends Jerry Salyers, Clifford Salyers, Becky Damron, Bill and Fran Monk, Delbert Chaffins, Tony Lowe and Danny Whitt.
