Jerry L. Daffern Obituary

Jerry L. Daffern, 57 of Hurst, passed away Friday, February 28, 2020 in Dallas surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1962 in Ft. Worth. Early on, Jerry loved his “wheels”, from tricycle to bicycle to motorcycle to cars, particularly Chevy’s. He was a man of many talents, a “Jack of all trades” and a master of many. When he was four years old, he learned to water ski while the family was on vacation at Lake of the Pines in East Texas. He came up on 1 ski and continued to slalom ski for many years. When he was in first grade, Jerry got his first boat. It was a row boat. We lived on Eagle Mountain Lake and he would row across the slew to see his little buddy on the other side. In 1970, he played linebacker in PEE WEE Football. His team, The Colts, won 1st place that year. In 1971, he won 1st place in Scouts Pack 324’s “Space Derby”. In Junior High he again played linebacker until he got a rope burn at practice and ended up in the hospital with blood poisoning. He decided then that he would rather get a part time job than play football. He rode his motorcycle to work at C.A.’s Restaurant, working as a short order cook. Jerry graduated from Bell High School in 1981. After high school he attended Tarrant County College, worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone for a period of time and then worked at Tuggle Automotive Machine Shop rebuilding and refurbishing car parts. He later leased and managed that machine shop. In the 1980’s his love of Chevy’s resulted in his joining the Central Texas Corvette Club. He bought an old, beat-up “junker” of a corvette, tore it down to the bare frame in our garage. He rebuilt it from the ground up and started racing. In 1984, he won 1st place in the Speed Event in the 15th Annual Southern States Corvette Festival in Ardmore, OK. In 1985, he again won 1st place for Drag Racing in Ardmore as well as the Central Texas Corvette Club Drag Racing Championship in Waco. That year he set a national record for Drag Racing in Corvette Clubs of America. All in the car, he rebuilt from the ground up. Jerry also managed and then owned and operated a photo shop for many years in the Hurst area. Later, he joined the work team as a machinist at the Randolph Austin Company, builder of custom cars among other things. He was then hired by a fracking company, again as a machinist, making huge parts used in the oil business. Currently, he was working for GE, again as a machinist. Jerry was the happiest he had ever been after meeting the love of his life, Lisa. Their love grew fast and Jerry would do absolutely anything for her. One of the many special moments he and Lisa shared daily, were holding hands and praying together. The smartest thing Jerry ever did was placing his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and being baptized. Thanks be to God. Jerry loved the water and sports. He loved his jet ski and named it the Beast. He loved Rock-in-Roll, his cats, SIFI and Star Trek. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and he cried the day that Dale Earnhardt passed away. Jerry will be missed by so many who dearly loved him. He will never be forgotten. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa Caroline Daffern; his mother, Nancy Daffern; his son, Alex Wade; his step-son, Grayson Phillips; his sister, Kathy Berney; his niece, Amanda Berney; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family and friends who will always love him. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lewis Daffern, Sr.
