Carroll Dean Haddix Obituary

Carroll Dean Haddix, 84, a resident of East Dailey, passed from this life Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at home. Although he had been in declining health, death was unexpected. Carroll was born Wednesday, January 1, 1936 in East Dailey, a son of the late Ross Haddix and Gladys Wood Haddix. In May of 1963 he married the former Carolyn Sutton who preceded him in death in 2009. Left to cherish his memory are three children, Rick Haddix and wife Ella of East Dailey, Sherri Crisci and husband Marco of Ranson, and Linda Gladwell and husband Bill of TN, four grandchildren, Robert Haddix, Danielle Holmes and husband Todd, Sierra Bennett and husband Jay, and Wayne Gladwell, three great-grandchildren, Tucker Bennett, Clayton and Sara Gladwell, and one sister, Joetta Welch of East Dailey. Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife was one son, Larry Kerr, six siblings, Donnie and Ross Haddix, Ardell Thompson, Arlene Boxell, Elaine Nelson, and an infant sister. Carroll proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was then employed as a cable maintenance technician for C&P Telephone Company. He enjoyed hunting, vegetable gardening, and riding his four wheeler. Carroll was obsessed with mowing his grass, sometimes he’d ride around on his lawn mower every other day to survey if it needed mowed again. He also was very handy and liked to fix things around the house and performed his own maintenance on his Kubota tractor. Above all, Carroll loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. A member of his weekly dinner group commented, “We all loved him so much. He talked about his family a lot and you could see and hear the love in his voice that he felt for them”. Carroll’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held at Tygart Valley Baptist Church Saturday, March 7, 2020, at 11:00 am. Pastor Jack Howell will officiate and interment will follow in Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman.
