Patricia Dockery Obituary

Mrs. Patricia Wood Dockery, age 76, of Waco, GA passed away February 26, 2020. She was born March 2, 1943 in Tallapoosa to the late Paul Ray Wood and Carolyn Crabtree O’Neal. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur Jerry Dockery; grandson, Austin Tacker; uncle, David Crabtree; and brother in law, Robert “Bobby” Dockery. Mrs. Dockery attended Tallapoosa High School and West Georgia College. In high school she was a majorette in the band. She worked for 10 years at the Rogers Corporation, 10 years at United Tech; and 12 years for the State of Georgia; where she retired as a Senior Purchasing Agent. All while working full-time, she raised 3 children with her youngest son entering as a late addition. She was always an avid reader and student, staying up to date with current events and politics. She even marched for Women’s Rights in her 70s. She loved to travel, even traveling as far as England, Italy, Scotland, and Panama. She was a great mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to all her family. She was also the best second mother to friends, significant others, spouses and partners. She was kind, gentle, without judgement, quick-witted, and sharp of tongue. She was the perfect combination of doting grandmother and bawdy aunt. She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Caprice and Tony Ashe, of Monroe, GA and Shannon and Mark Tacker, of Erwin, TN; son and daughter in law, John and Serena Dockery, of Carrollton, GA; grandchildren, Jen and Brian Smith, Corey and Dustin Bell, Steven Ashe, Aaron Tacker, Alex Andrea Gallegos, Kyler Huff, and Lauren Huff; great grandchildren, Emma Bell, Jude Blackstock, and one on the way; sisters and brothers in law, Jane Wages, Raye and Johann Liu, Robin and Alvin George; sisters in law and spouse, Beverly and David Vaughn and Evita Dockery Norton; her beloved chihuahua, “Taco;” as well as a host of nieces and nephews. In keeping with her wishes, Patricia will be cremated. The family will have a memorial service in the Miller Funeral Home Dogwood Chapel, Monday, March 2, 2020 at 2:00PM. John Dockery will share special messages and invite others to share stories, as well. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00PM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
