Lyle Elmer McKenzie, 88 of Tracy, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Prairie View Health Care Center in Tracy, Minnesota. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. at Almlie – Horvath Funeral Home in Tracy on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Bethel Cemetery in Garvin. Online condolences may be place at www.almlie-horvath.com. The Almlie – Horvath Funeral Service of Tracy will be caring for the family. Lyle was born May 1, 1927 just north of Garvin to Roger Lawrence and Bulah May (Hatton) McKenzie. He was the third of four children. While still a toddler, Lyle contracted polio. As a young boy, he move with his family to Garvin where he attended grade school. Lyle never let polio get the better of him and used leg braces to walk. He was in the Twin Cities as a youth where he underwent treatments to ease his polio symptoms. As a young adult, Lyle moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked for 18 years as chef at the Hills Hotel and Coffee Shop. He was then a chef at the Sheraton in downtown Sioux Falls. Later in life, he moved to Slayton, and then to Tracy where he was a long time resident of Twin Circle. In 2009, he moved to the Prairie View Center where he passed away. Known for his green thumb, he loved growing any kind of plant and also raised all kinds of animals, including chinchillas, chickens, and several breeds of dogs. When he began using a scooter, he could be seen with his faithful dog Timmy out for a walk/ride or going to visit friends. Lyle loved to read books, put jigsaw puzzles together and play cards. What he loved most, though, was spending time with family and friends. Lyle would faithfully send cards to his loved ones, would remember jokes and humorous events for years, and would never pass up an opportunity to make another person laugh. Lyle is survived by several generations of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale Roger and Cecil Donald and one sister Lorraine Mae Meek. Blessed be his memory.
