Sister Kristin Funari, CSJP (Elaine Rose) died peacefully at the St. Michael Villa Infirmary in Englewood Cliffs on Friday, November 11, 2016. Elaine was born on September 29, 1945 to the late Ivo Funari and Helen Giannini Wentworth in Fitchburgh, MA. Educated by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace in Pennsgrove, NJ she was received as Sister Kristin in the Congregation in July 1966. Sister Kristin earned a B.A. in Sociology from St. Peter’s College, Jersey City and a Masters in Social Work from Fordham University. She credited the people she served and ministered with as providing the most crucial part of her education. Sister Kristin served in St. Joseph’s Village in Rockleigh, the Center for Human Development and St. Boniface Parish in Jersey City, and the Archdiocese of Newark Campaign for Human Development. She served as project manager for the development of the York Street Project in Jersey City and later served as director of St. Joseph’s Home and as executive director of York Street. She served the last eight years in Congregation Leadership, two years as Assistant Congregation Leader and Treasurer. Sister Kristin was pre-deceased by her sister Enricha (Ricky). She is survived by her brother Ralph, sister-in- law Philomena, and her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 15 from 2 PM – 6 PM at St. Anastasia’s Catholic Church in Teaneck, NJ, with a wake service at 6 PM. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 16 at 10 AM at St. Anastasia’s. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ.
