Sr. Margaret Burke

Sister Margaret Burke, CSJP, aka Sister James Marie, 101, of Englewood Cliffs, NJ, died peacefully at St. Michael Villa on November 9, 2014. She was born February 27, 1913 in Kilconnell, Co. Galway, Ireland, to the late Thomas Burke and Norah Brown Burke. Sr. Margaret entered the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace at St. Michael Villa Novitiate, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, September 8, 1940 and pronounced final vows on September 8, 1945. For more than 35 years, Sr. Margaret ministered in childcare and with the aged blind. As a licensed practical nurse, she served at St. Joseph Home for the Blind, Jersey City; Barbara Givernaud Home, North Bergen; St. Joseph Village, Rochleigh; and Villa Marie Claire Residence, Saddle River, NJ, before retiring to St. Michael Villa in 2006. Sister was pre-deceased by her brothers Thomas, Michael and Patrick Burke and sisters Ann Wade, Mary Harte and Kathleen Burke. Several nieces and nephews survive her. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11 from 2-7 PM at St. Michael Villa, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be on Wednesday, November 12 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael Villa Chapel. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, No. Arlington. Memorial contributions may be made to the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peace, 399 Hudson Terrace, Englewood Cliffs, NJ 07632 Arrangements made by Angelo G.
