William Bernard Brady Obituary

William B. Brady Jr of Fort Garland. CO passed away at Spanish Peaks Veterans Community Living Center, Walsenburg CO. Friday April 3 2015. He was born in Winsted Ct. on July 29th, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents William B. Brady Sr. and Elizabeth Bossong Brady; Brothers Henry Brady Sr., James Brady Sr., Edward Brady Sr., and Sister Elizabeth Donofrio. He graduated from St. Anthony and Gilbert High schools in Winsted. He earned double B.S. Degree in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering from Clarkson Institute of Technology. His Master’s Degree was from Millard Fillmore Collage of Buffalo University. Enlisting in the Air Force he attended Officer’s Candidate School graduating as a 2nd Lt. He served in the Special Weapons Unit in Morocco during the Korean War and at Ben Gorier in North Africa. Upon being discharges from the Air Force he joined the Air Reserve. When discharged he was Captain in the Reserves. Upon retirement from Doubleday Publishing in New York he moved to Forbes Park. He was instrumental in establishing the Revitalization Committee of Fort Garland, The Sierra Grande Scholarship Fund and helped with the Stained Glass Windows at Holy Family Church in Fort Garland. He also played Santa for the Ft. Garland children’s Christmas party for over fifteen years and truly loved serving his community. He’s survived by a sister Magdalena Brady of Winsted, CT and a brother John Brady of Torrington, CT and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday April 10, 2015 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Fort Garland. A Rosary will be held prior to the service at 11:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow services in the Fort Garland Community Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Shriners Children Hospital or the Sierra Grande Scholarship fund and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
