Gerard J. Griffin, Sr., age 96, of Fairfield, the loving and devoted husband of the late Catherine Cullen Griffin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 8, 2016. He was predeceased by his brother, William. Born in New Milford, CT, he was a graduate of New Milford High School and the University of Connecticut. Mr. Griffin was a distinguished U.S. Marine Corps veteran and was the recipient of the Purple Heart for his valor during World War II in the Pacific region. His favorite holiday was the Marine Corps Birthday on November 10th. Mr. Griffin was a CPA in Fairfield for over fifty years and a member of the Connecticut CPA Society. In his spare time, he loved to play golf; was an avid reader and was a UConn Sports Fan. Mr. Griffin also had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a longtime member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Men's Guild. He is survived by his four devoted children, Gerard J. Griffin, Jr. and his wife, Pat of Shelton, Dennis Griffin and his wife, Devyn of Lake Worth, FL, Mary Beth Griffin of Altamonte Springs, FL and James Griffin and his wife, Jill of St. Cloud, FL; six cherished grandchildren, Melissa, Brendan, Colleen, Megan, Luke and Sage and numerous nephews and nieces. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 9:30 a.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Road in Fairfield Center. Interment is private.
