Juanita Cherry Baines known as “Y” or “Nita” was born on October 11, 1939 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late Rebecca Johnson Carroll and Tommie Carroll, Sr. She departed this life on January 10, 2013 at her residence in Exmore, Virginia. Juanita started her early education years in South Carolina. Then she moved to Jersey City, New Jersey, where she was raised by Louse Singleton. She completed her education and began to work in a linen factor in New Jersey until moving to Virginia. Once she made her home in Virginia, she began to work various jobs. The Clam House, Tankard Nursery and she also did farm work as a side job. Juanita was a wonderful mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She had a special love and devotion to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Whenever you would see Juanita she would always have a smile on her face. She had a heart of gold and always had time to share her kindness with everyone she came in contact with and she was a very humble woman. She enjoyed eating and loved being with her family. She was preceded death by her parents, two brothers, Ronald Carroll and Tommie Carroll, Jr., one grandson, Sequyah Cherry and husband Calvin Baines. She leaves to cherish her precious memories: five daughters, Leslie Walker (George) Exmore, VA, Brenda Cherry and Alvina Cherry of Portsmouth, VA, Diana Epps (William Nesbit) of Norfolk, VA, Merry Stanley (Robert) Birdnest, VA, one son Leonard Cherry, Brooklyn, New York; 27 grandchildren; 35 great - grandchildren; five sisters Albertha Carroll, Jerrilee Mitchell, Bonita Singleton, Regina Small (Delbert) Leola Dent all from Charleston, South Carolina; one brother Freddie Johnson Charleston, South Carolina; three sister-in-laws; Roselee Carroll, Charleston, South Carolina; Mary Weeks, Parksley, VA; Shirley Slaughter Buffalo, New York, two aunts Williemae Carroll Waldoboro, South Carolina, Mary Stone, Milledill, GA, a special bunch of nieces, nephews cousins and other relatives, a very special son-in-law, George Walker, Jr.; special god daughters, Betty Richardson and Annie Walker; special friends, Dorothy Singleton, Sarah Mitchell, Shirley Mason, Birdie Walkers and Virgie Walker
